This year the Smith Mountain Lake Women’s Club (SMLWC) awards the 2nd annual scholarship to a graduating female senior at Staunton River High School who has been actively involved in the community. The scholarship recipient must complete a scholarship package listing her activities that demonstrate her leadership values and teamwork in serving the community. The scholarship winner is required to explain her educational and career goals. The 2024 SMLWC Scholarship recipient is Miss Molly Crow, a graduating senior at Staunton River High School, and her explanation is listed in the bio below:

“After graduating high school, I plan to the University of Virginia where I will major in computer science. With my major, I plan to intern at a law enforcement office for two years before I apply for the FBI Academy to pursue a job in research."
Miss Crow’s community service and leadership activities include Vice President of Staunton River’s National Honors Society, Senior Class Historian, and Dance Student Teacher at Floyd Ward School of Dance. She also participated in the following programs: Angels from Heaven Helper - a program at Floyd Ward School of Dance which is a dance class for children with special needs; Floyd Ward Dance Camp Counselor – a one week summer dance camp; and Staffer for Jeremiah Project – Jeremiah Project is a Christian based camp for middle schoolers where they help restore homes in Romney West Virginia. There are various other volunteer opportunities that Miss Crow has participated in which includes helping at the Down Syndrome Association Christmas Party, turnip gleaning, serving meals for a weekend at a camp for middle schoolers, and helping to paint bricks at a community center.
